Moist Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Icing

...........I am so exited to post my 50th recipe. Till now it has been a very good experience of managing my recipe blog. Thanks for all your support and comments.
Today is my Sweethearts Birthday and what else can i think of other than making a homemade birthday cake for him. He likes the flavour and sweetness of chocolate, so why not make a chocolate cake. I made it and the cake came out very well with so... yummy and soft also moist.

Ingredients :

     For the Chocolate cake:
  • All purpose flour       - 1 cup
  • Sugar                        - 1 cup
  • Cocoa Powder          - 1/2 cup (unsweetned )
  • Baking soda               - 1 ts. sp
  • Egg                            - 1 large
  • Butter milk                  - 1/2 cup
  • Refined oil                  - 12 cup
  • Vanilla Extract            - 1 ts. sp
  • Boiling water               - 1/2 cup
  • Salt                             - 1/2 ts. sp
   For Icing :
  • Icing sugar                - 100 gm
  • Butter                       - 75 gm
  • Vanilla Extract          - 1/2 ts. sp
  • Cocoa powder         - 2 ta. sp
  • Milk                         - 2 ta. sp
  • Dairy milk chocolate - 75 gm (cooled)

Method : 

   Chocolate Cake:
  1. Preheat the oven to 300 F or 150 C for 10 minutes.
  2. Grease the 8" Baking tray  with butter and flour.
  3. Sieve the flour, baking soda, cocoa powder,salt together.
  4. Now place all the ingredients (except egg and water) mix them well. Add egg and mix them.
  5. Add water little by water and mix them with a hand mixer at medium-medium high speed untill all the ingredients are blended and smooth.
  6. Pour the mixture into greased baking tray.
  7. Bake them for an hour . If cupcakes are used then bake for 20 minutes.
  8. Test by sticking in the middle with a knife. If it comes out clean....its done. Else bake them till the correct consistency.
  9. Allow them to cool completely.
    Icing on the cake :
  1. In a small bowl , mix together butter,sugar,vanilla extract,cocoa powder.
  2. Add little milk . Mix them to smooth and creamy so that icing will spread well on the cake.
  3. Spread the icing on the cake and in the sides.
  4. Finally grate the chocolate bar and sprinkle over the cake.
  5. Keep them in the fridge, till it is served.

Vermicelli-Javvarisi Payasam

Mmm....its festival season, what else can i think of making something special ..Ya sweets and savouries.
Ya not let us start with our traditional varieties of payasam. Among all the payasams , i like semia-javvarisi payasam. Simple and easy to make...

Ingredients :
  • Vermicelli/Semia                - 1/2 cup
  • Javvarisi/Sabudana            - 1/2 cup
  • Milk                                  - 1/2 litre
  • Sugar                                - 1/2 cup
  • Cashewnuts-Dry grapes    - 1/4 cup
  • Ellachi powder                  - 1 ts.sp
  • Ghee                                - 2 ta. sp
Method :
  1. In a pan fry the sabudana with a ts. sp of ghee till it puffs out fully. Remove them from heat and boil them in a 2 cups of water till  they become transperent. Remove excess water.
  2. Fry vermicelli in a ta.sp of ghee till golden brown and remove them from heat. Fry cashews and dry grapes in ghee and keep them aside.
  3. Boil the milk, when it starts boiling add vermicelli and leave them  to cook ,add the cooked sabudana leave them to boil for a minute.
  4. Add sugar ellachi powder and cook them for 2 minutes or till the sugar dissolves.
  5.  Finally add the roasted cashews and grapes.
  6. Serve them hot or cold.
